About

Eat vicariously. In-depth restaurant reviews from the Bay Area and around the country. Candid accounts of memorable (and not so memorable) meals, richly illustrated to fulfill your visual appetite. What you see is what you get.

Restaurants are rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on originality and quality of ambiance, service, menu and food–to which more weight is given. No pun intended. Favorites are duly noted.

Food for thought and thought for foodies. In between meals Entremets. Rants and raves about food and all its accompaniments.

No salad? One of the best places to eat traditional French fare in Paris is Brasserie Lipp. The restaurant has been around since 1880 and features a beautifully decorated art nouveau dining room, often filled with loyal habitués. On the all-French menu, you will find classics like cassoulet, blanquette de veau and baba au rhum; but only one thing in English. At the very top of the page, printed in red, all caps, is the announcement: “No salad as a meal”
